Title: Engineering hydrogel chemistries and structures for biomedical application

Abstract: Hydrogels have been widely applied for biomedical engineering given their relevant physiochemical and biological properties as native tissues. To better mimic the nanofibrous structure of native extracellular matrix, a reactive electrospinning method was developed to prepare poly(oligoethylene glycol methacrylate) (POEGMA)-based hydrogel nanofibers. These nanostructured hydrogels exhibited excellent physical and mechanical properties comparing to the bulk hydrogels. Moreover, the nanostructure existed in these hydrogels can also provide a support for cell adhesion and cell proliferation.
