Anna

Anna Watson – Co-Chair

Anna (she/her) is a 3rd year PhD student in the Tran group studying Polymers and Materials. Her research focuses on self-immolative polymers as degradable elastomeric materials. She has worked with WICTO since 2022 first as a general member and then as secretary. When not in lab, Anna enjoys painting, cooking and reading fiction.


Sam

Samantha Corapi – Co-Chair

Sam is a 2nd year graduate student in physical chemistry in the Aspuru-Guzik group. Her research focuses on machine learning applications for materials discovery. She was previously a Member at Large of WICTO and is looking forward to serving the chemistry community as co-chair this year! Sam enjoys listening to music, going for long walks, and trying new restaurants.


Bennett

Bennett Armstrong – Secretary

Bennett (she/her) is a third year Undergraduate student studying Chemistry, Physiology, and Near & Middle Eastern Civilisations. She is interested in inorganic, and environmental chemistry. This is Bennett’s first year as a part of WICTO, and she is excited to be involved in the organisation through her role as Secretary. Outside of school, Bennett enjoys running, going to concerts, and travelling.

Isabelle

Isabelle Lao – Events Coordinator

Isabelle (she/her) is a second year PhD student in the Murphy group studying air quality in the GTA. This is Isabelle's first year as a part of WICTO, and she is looking forward to being involved and meeting people in the chemistry community. Outside of school, Isabelle likes running, watching basketball, and playing Tetris.

Christine Hood – Events Coordinator

Christine (she/her) is a 1st year PhD student in the Tran group studying polymers. Her research focuses the self-assembly of peptoids into nanosheets. This is her first year working with WICTO and she is looking forward to organizing fun, engaging, and inclusive events! When not in lab, Christine enjoys cooking, rock climbing, and movies.

Anna Galang – Symposium Coordinator

Anna is a third-year Analytical and Biological PhD student at the Sullan lab. Her research focuses on using bioinspired polymer nanoparticles to treat bacterial infections. Anna is excited to be a part of WICTO for the second year and can't wait to organize this year's symposia! Aside from research, Anna enjoys running, reading, and eating tons of noodles!

Yao Yan Huang – Seminar Series Coordinator

Yao Yan Huang (she/her) is a 2nd year PhD student in Environmental Chemistry in the Abbatt group. Her research is on the multiphase chemistry of plastic additives and this is her first year on the WICTO team and excited to take part. Outside of the lab, Yao Yan enjoys cooking, reading, swimming, and playing boardgames.



Camelia

Camelia Atassi – Mentorship Coordinator

Camelia is a third year Undergraduate student studying Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry and Statistics. She is interested in organic and inorganic chemistry, and is looking forward to organizing the mentorship program this year. The program’s mission is to provide mentors with an opportunity to lead and guide their undergraduate mentees, who will gain valuable advice and insight about post-graduate plans. Camelia enjoys running, playing basketball and hiking.


Jill

Jill Downey – Outreach Coordinator

Jill is a third year PhD student in the Abbatt group studying Environmental Chemistry. In her research, Jill looks at the kinetics of oxidation reactions happening on common indoor surfaces that produce potentially harmful products. This is Jill’s second year being a part of WICTO and is so excited to be involved again. Outside of school, Jill is a member of the UofT synchronized swimming team, enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with friends.


Elyse Hudson – UTM Campus Representative

Kristen

Kristen Perry – Social Media Relations Coordinator

Kristen is a first year graduate student in Polymers and Materials Chemistry in the Seferos group. She is currently exploring modifications of polymers for use in energy storage and polymer self-assembly. This is her first year being a part of WICTO and is excited to be involved in the executive team as the social media relations coordinator! When she isn’t in the lab, Kristen loves baking, painting, and playing board games with friends.
